Wear your heart on your sleeve (Literally)
Welcome everyone to February 2009!
It's a new month and we all know what is coming. Whether you call it "V-Day", "Singles Awareness Day" or something else, it's hard to avoid the commotion surrounding Valentine's Day. So in honor of February 14th, here are some very interestingly funny facts about the holiday that you may not have known:
- St. Valentine's Day was first made an official holiday in England and by none other than the King of Romance himself, Henry the XIII. Forget the issues with bearing male heirs, you know wives one through six probably forgot to get him a card on V-day.
- National survey's suggest that up to 64% of men do not make plans in advance for a romantic Valentine's Day with their sweetheart. Now, Say It Green's printers can print pretty quickly, but not THAT quickly...give us a couple days warning at least.
- Roughly 1 BILLION (evil finger to the side of the mouth expression here) Valentine's Day cards will be exchanged. Also, about 300 million "Maybe's" and 500 million "NO's" will be checked in response to the question "Will you go out with me? :)"
- While men may not be too good at planning ahead, roughly 15% of women will see it coming and will order themselves flowers to be delivered on...you guessed, February 14th.
- During the 1800's, a drop in postage rates and an increase in "obscene" Valentine's day cards lead to Chicago's post office rejecting more than 25,000 cards on the grounds that they "were too indecent and were not fit to be carried through the U.S. Mail". While direct correlations are hard to substantiate, it is widely believed that the lack of love showed by the Chicago Post Office is what most likely lead to Chicago becoming a hot bed for Mobs in the 1920's & 30's.
- And lastly, if you think you've got the best Valentine's Day gift, read this first and consider: The Taj Mahal in India, built under Emperor Shahjahan as a memorial to his wife and stands as the emblem of the eternal love story. It also took 22 years and approximately 20,00 Laborers.
